About this tool

Every photo carries more than the picture: camera make and model, often serial numbers, the exact time it was taken, and GPS coordinates accurate to a few metres. This reads all of it, warns you about the parts that identify you or your home, and gives you a copy with the metadata removed. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.

Cameras and phones write far more into a photo than the picture: the make and model, often the body and lens serial numbers, the exact second it was taken, and — if location was on — coordinates accurate to a few metres. Editing software adds its own trail.

None of that is visible when you look at the image, which is the problem. A photo taken at home and posted publicly can carry the address. This page shows you what is there before you publish it, and will hand back a copy with all of it removed.

JPEG, PNG and WebP are read in full. HEIC and AVIF are recognised but their box structure is not opened, so they show dimensions only — converting to JPEG first is the workaround.
